Coming from a very outgoing and vibrant culture, N did feel a bit homesick when she first arrived in Sydney at the end of the shivering winter season.
But as the specks of summer sun began to peak through the cloudy winter, the burgeoning warmth of both the sun and Sydney gradually made her feel more included in her surroundings.
The inviting and diversified culture of Sydney can make anyone forget their homesickness according to N. The vibrant food markets, the picturesque beaches, the welcoming nature of the people, the bustling city life and the outgoing culture does wonders in keeping an international student engaged.
N decided to study abroad in Sydney due to her outgoing and self-dependent nature that made her feel like she was ready to be an international student in a country that she never once visited. She chose to focus more on the new opportunities and the good sides of studying abroad rather than what the actual scenario might encompass, as being by yourself on unfamiliar land is never easy. Even though she readily adapted to her new surroundings, it is inevitable that there are moments where N misses her home that she left behind.
But the attractions of Sydney made her feel livelier than ever. She revealed the scenery at Milsons Point at night to be her favourite because of the glowing panorama of both the Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The sunsets of Coogee Beach also helped remind her of the beaches from back home. On top of that, the various selections of food cuisine in Town Hall and Surry Hills gave her an amazing multicultural experience as well. Life in Sydney seems to fly by in a rush but for N, this is precisely what makes this city so special because it makes you focus on living in the moment and making every second of this amazing experience abroad count.
