This acclaimed program strives to enhance the overall positive experience for every international student by training ambassadors to engage actively in urban life and bolster Sydney’s standing as a preferred study destination.

The program provides complimentary training, integrated learning, and volunteering prospects to enrich leadership skills and experiences for international students. These skills are transferrable to their future careers. Participants also have the chance to foster a sense of belonging while contributing to the planning of local events and activities.

Accessible, inclusive, and flexible, the program accepts applications year-round, within program capacity. It offers three different program durations, accommodating students with diverse schedules and capacities.

Ambassadors also engage in forums related to international education to influence policy, research, and community services.

Throughout the program, ambassadors receive mentoring and support from the City of Sydney to conceive and execute projects addressing the needs of international student communities. These initiatives encompass employment forums, networking gatherings, leadership conferences, and sports events.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the program you must:

  • Be an international student aged 18 years or over with an active enrolment in a tertiary education institution in Greater Sydney, such as a university, vocational education and training (VET) institute or other education provider.
  • Live, study or work in or visit the City of Sydney’s local area.
  • Commit to participate for the duration of the 3, 6 or 12-month program selected. This includes attendance at induction sessions, training courses and events/projects in the City of Sydney’s local area, as well as volunteering opportunities across Greater Sydney. These may require a certain number of hours per week.
  • Complete the online expression of interest form.
  • Where required, acknowledge and adhere to the City of Sydney volunteer position statement of duties for the international student leadership and ambassador program.
  • Follow relevant City of Sydney policies, procedures and expectations including but not limited to the City of Sydney Code of Conduct and Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) guidelines.

International students living and studying in Sydney are invited to apply to join our 2024/25 program.

Expressions of interest are now open for these program dates and will be accepted until all the available places are filled:

  • 3-month program – late April to July 2024
  • 12-month program – late April 2024 to March 2025
