The Sydney Marathon presented by ASICS is one of the most well-known scenic marathons that happens here in Sydney.

Volunteering for this marathon was one of the best things that I did in Sydney after arriving here as an international student. I was able to make a new bunch of friends while volunteering as many other young students were participating in this event as part of their extra-curricular activities.

It was during the summer time when I volunteered, and the heat was a bit hard to withstand but the exciting atmosphere of the marathon made it easier to forget about the blazing sun. My tasks for this event included filling up participants’ water bottles, being at the hydration station to provide water to runners and encourage them to boost up their energy. It was a very fun but slightly tiring event as it started from as early as 4am in the morning and ended at 1pm and you have to continuously work through the event. But I loved the experience of working there as I was able to socialise with more people who go to university in Sydney.

This event helped motivate me to participate in the Sydney Marathon this year with my friends as runners as I love the cause that it reflects through the fundraising system to provide for the charity organisations. This marathon is like a festival that is packed with a range of activities other than running such as massage stations, food stalls, and lots of cheering from the public encouraging both the participants and the volunteers.
