You must complete ALL steps in this section to commence your program.
Step 1: Equipment Requirements
Every student must bring with them to Orientation Day:
English language Windows laptop or Apple Macbook (NOT an iPad, Android tablet, or Chromebook) with the English version of Windows 10 or macOS Big Sur (11.0).
Note: Your laptop must have its operating system, Office 365 Suite and Google Chrome set to English.
Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) Letter.
Passport.
Water bottle.
Step 2: Accept Your Offer
Your zID is your UNSW Student ID, you will use this to login to your online learning platform Moodle andmyUNSW. You would have received your zID when you accepted your offer online.
You have already been enrolled in your first term course, either DPGE1001 – Communication and Academic Literacy 1 or DPGE1004 – Communication and Academic Literacy 4, depending on eligibility.
Communication and Academic Literacy 4 (DPGE1004) is an accelerated English course. This course encompasses the content of DPGE1001, DPGE1002, and DPGE1003; however, instead of completing these three courses separately over three terms, students who meet the requirements will be enrolled into DPGE1004 and complete it within a single term.
If you are a new student who has not logged into myUNSW previously, please follow these steps below:
You will need to have activated your zID, as part of the 'Accept Online Part 2' process.
As a Diploma student, you will be given access to myUNSW.
Select the sign-on option where you will need to enter your UNSW zID and password.
Once you have logged into your myUNSW, please click on ‘class timetable’ under the enrolments heading and you will be able to view your timetable. You can also click here if you need help deciphering your course codes and locations in your timetable.
If you have any questions about your enrolment, please contact the UNSW College Diploma team at [email protected]
Do you need help setting up and activating your student accounts?
We are holding an online support session with our friendly team who will walk you through the process step-by-step, ensuring that you are familiar with all the features and functions of your accounts.
If you have recently accepted your offer of admission to UNSW, you need to enrol in at least one subject before you can access your email. Once enrolled, you will then be able to sign in after 48 hours.
Note: Your zID will also be used at UNSW Sydney, so when you transition to the main campus, you will continue to have the same student ID number.
Step 3: Set Up Multi Factor Authentication (MFA)
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is a requirement at UNSW for everyone with a current zID account. MFA is a multi-step account login process that requires users to enter an additional code on top of their password. This provides an additional layer of security to help protect the University and your account from unauthorised access.
Our University uses the Microsoft Authenticator app, which needs to be installed on your smartphone before completing the MFA registration on your computer. Once set up, Microsoft Authenticator will periodically send you codes to verify your sign-in to single sign-on (SSO) applications such as Outlook, Moodle, and SharePoint.
Follow the instructions in the ‘Set Up MFA’ sectionon this page.
Important: Do not delete the MFA app once you have set it up. If you delete MFA or get a new device, you will need to call UNSW IT to reset it. For MFA technical issues and assistance contact the IT Service Centre at (02) 9385 1333and select MFA from the options.
If you forget your zID password click on the ‘Forgot password’ button (see screenshot below).
If you get an MFA notification, you need to approve sign on from your MFA app on your smartphone or other device.
If you have any login problems for Moodle please email UNSW College IT Team at [email protected]
In your email, please include your zID, describe the issues you are having with Moodle, and include screenshots where possible.
Step 5: Activate Your Unique Student Identifier (USI)
All students must have a USI in order to graduate and receive their award. Activate your USI here.
Commencing and returning international students must land in Australia and go through customs before they can create a USI using their non-Australian passport and visa as a form of ID.
Once you have your 10 digit USI follow these steps:
Click on Unique Student Identifier under 'Personal Details'.
Enter your 10 digit USI.
Please do not forget your USI. Keep this number noted somewhere safe and secure because you will need it when you transition over to the main UNSW campus.
Step 6: Make A Student ID Card Appointment
Every UNSW Diploma student is required to have a UNSW student ID card to gain access to the libraries, borrow learning resources, join clubs and societies, attend events, and other essential student resources.
Make sure you've been enrolled in your courses for at least 48 hours before you try to book an appointment to get your student card. If you try to book earlier, UNSW will not be able to provide this to you.
All new students including students transferring from other UNSW College programs are required to attend Orientation Day.
If you do not attend Orientation Day you will not be commenced as a student.

As a new student, you have been automatically enrolled UNSW College Buddy Program! This inclusive initiative is designed to equip you with essential knowledge and support during your first four weeks of studies, commencing the week prior to your Orientation Day.
What is the Buddy Program?
Starting your academic program at a new and unfamiliar environment can be overwhelming. There is a wealth of information to absorb, and navigating unfamiliar territory can be daunting.
Our Buddy Program is designed to foster initial friendships and introduce new students to a supportive community. It is part of our commitment to ensuring that every student feels prepared and connected prior to starting their studies with us.
From the outset, you will gain invaluable social connections in your allocated group, led by a Peer Mentor.
Who is the Peer Mentor?
Our dedicated Peer Mentors, who are experienced students at the College, will guide you through university life, ensuring you feel welcomed, connected, and ready to excel in your new academic and social environment. They will provide insider tips on campus life, help you discover the best dining and study spots, and offer support to help you settle down in Sydney.
Who else will be in the group?
You will be in a group with other students (a.k.a. your new Buddies!) who are also starting the program at the same time as yourself. Some of them may have been to Sydney before, some may have called Sydney home for most or for all of their life, and some might be stepping into Sydney, or even Australian for the first time ever. Before you even step onto campus, you can rest assured that you already have a great support system of friends to navigate your journey at the College.
What do I need to do now?
You may see a notification to join a WhatsApp or WeChat group, please make sure to join it!
Once you are in the group chat, make sure to introduce yourself to your new buddies and Peer Mentor.
Remember that this chat and your group is a safe space to ask any questions you may have, and if the Peer Mentor cannot answer your specific question then they can help direct you to where you need to go.
Have any burning questions you want to ask about settling into Sydney or curious on what it is like to study at UNSW College?
Find the answers to your questions at one of our Pre-Orientation Student Information Sessions!
Held fortnightly from 4pm to 5pm (Sydney Local Time), you can participate in the online session led by current students who have started their education at College within the last 12 months. Our current students have a wealth of knowledge when it comes to study tips, budgeting, the best eats around the city and so much more.
Rest assured that these sessions are very welcoming, relaxed and casual, so you can just ask one question and then leave once you got an answer!
