Equitable Learning Services (ELS) is available to aid you with your workload while you are at UNSW College. We understand that if you have a disability, learning difficulties, ongoing health or mental health needs that it be challenging to keep up with your studies. In many circumstances, we can provide additional support and flexible learning strategies specifically tailored to help you achieve your maximum academic potential.

Please let us know as soon as possible if you require these services by emailing our Student Wellbeing Team.

An Equitable Learning Plan (ELP) is a statement that indicates the approval of a student’s need for additional support during their studies. An ELP aims to provide adjustments that help to reduce or eliminate barriers that could be reasonably altered, and allow the student to be able to focus on their studies. Moreover, these plans consider the individual strengths, challenges, and learning styles of each student, so students can rest assured that their needs will be met.

By having an ELP, we strive to guarantee that students with disabilities or neurodivergent conditions has access to all educational materials, activities, and opportunities; are provided accommodations that allow the student to participate in the classroom and complete assignments; and offered support to help the student develop the skills and strategies needed to overcome any barriers to learning.

ELPs for students may include:

  • In-class support
  • Examination and submitting assessments
  • Use of assistive technology
  • Referral to other support services

To apply for an ELP, you will require a doctor’s letter or medical report outlining your disability or health condition including details of diagnosis, suggested support required and any medical recommendations.

Any documents should be issued within past 2 years and be in English, or with an official translation.

Your Student Wellbeing Adviser will work with you to develop your ELP whilst studying at UNSW College and ensure this is regularly reviewed to meet your ongoing and evolving needs.

Please register for your ELP here.

Once you have been issued with Equitable Learning Plan (ELP) please email it to the Student Wellbeing Team so we can ensure that it is forwarded to the academic and assessment teams for immediate implementation.

Is it mandatory to share information regarding my disability or medical condition?

It is your choice whether you choose to share information with UNSW College with regards to any existing disability or health/mental health condition. However, we do recommend you inform us if any condition so we can be proactive in curating a personalised support strategy to help you manage both your wellbeing and your studies.

What happens with the information once I provide it to the university?

One of our Student Wellbeing Advisers will contact you to arrange an appointment in which you can provide more information about what sort of assistance you may need as you progress through the year. During your appointment, the Student Wellbeing Adviser will be able to provide you with in-depth information about the various types of support available on and off-campus, discuss methods to work with your situation and also lend an ear to any troubles or worries that you may want to share.
