This fortnight, I’m bringing you an article highlighting the events happening throughout the month for Pride Month!
What is Pride Month?
Pride Month is held every June to celebrate the diversity of our lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex (LGBTQIA+) community. It is a time we can celebrate and recognise the history, resilience and achievements of this community
Pride Month is open to all individuals, so why not get your friends together and choose a few things to check out throughout the month?! I’ll feature some cool events below, but definitely check out the Sydney Pride site and City of Sydney to see all the events being hosted!
SGLBA Bondi to Watsons Bay – Walk & Lunch, Saturday 8 June
Hosted by the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Business Association, this one is a great opportunity to meet other people whilst exploring the beautiful coastlines of Sydney. It is a short 4.6km walk that everyone is welcome at, no matter your identity!
Pride Open Day at Qtopia Museum, Sunday 9 June
Qtopia Sydney is an inclusive space devoted to the memory, education and celebration of the unique histories and lived experiences of the LGBTQIA+ community. There are exhibitions and performances that you can view when visiting.
Walking Tour of Oxford Street with Wonder Mama, Sydney’s Super-Hero Drag Queen
Discover Oxford Street in Darlinghurst through a walking tour, with refreshments at MyKiki Waffle Store included in the ticket price! Learn about the colourful characters that have been icons on the Sydney scene and made Oxford Street a world famous destination as well as hearing from Wonder Mama herself about Mardi Gras.
Neon Glow Art Workshop, Wednesday 12 June
Try your skills at oil pastels using some fun and bright neon colours in a workshop hosted by Sydney Drag Queen Wonder Mama. You’ll be under UV lights so what your artwork come to life and GLOW!
Queeries, Friday 14 June
Held at the Machine Hall, this is a night to see queer journalists, poets, podcasters and other creatives come together. Based off the 2024 Vivid Sydney’s humanity theme, Queeries is a literary night of stories and performances through the queer lens.
Drag Trivia, Bingo and More!
Drag Bingo, Trivia and even Drag Shows are a big part of Sydney’s nightlife. Check out this link for where Sydney’s local Drag Kings & Queens will be hosting events throughout June.
