As a first timer in Sydney, seeing Vivid Sydney has become the epitome of a light show festival for me.
I have never seen a light show on a scale this big anywhere else that I have been to. The light show happens all over Sydney CBD, from Circular Quay to Darling Harbour, and you can literally see the Opera House illuminated like a canvas with moving art projections.
I went to Vivid with my friends as it was more fun for all of us to share excitement of seeing the installations together. We got to see the Harbour Bridge light up with moving graphics which made it seem like we were watching live painting. The view is amazing in Circular Quay as you can see tall skyscrapers stand proudly with cast an assortment of colourful lights. However, the showstopper of the Vivid program would have to go to Opera House as it was in the center of all the attractions, and radiant displays of fantastical imagery on its exterior sails. There are also many restaurants, food trucks and pop-up food stalls selling amazing food in Circular Quay and The Rocks but as it was cold, we chose to be indoors and eat malatang in Chinatown.
Thus, we hopped on the light rail from Circular Quay and went to a malatang restaurant to enjoy a piping hot bowl of malatang alongside fluffy steamed rice. The city was crowded with people, all going to watch Vivid with their family and friends. It did remind me of back home and missing the city crowd there, which funnily enough I used to despise when I was younger. The experience and memories from Vivid are memorable to me because of its festive atmosphere and amazing lighting shows.
