14 March 2025

By embracing diverse perspectives, we encourage creativity, innovation, and stronger communities, ultimately contributing to a more equitable society.

You’ll notice the orange hues throughout the design of this month’s magazine.

Why is that, you ask?

That’s because this magazine is all about celebrating harmony, hence “The Harmony Edition”! Harmony Day is celebrated annually on 21 March to coincide with the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. It is important to bring attention to the topic of cultural diversity, inclusivity, and mutual respect and to encourage people to celebrate differences and work toward a society free from racism and discrimination. You can read all about Harmony Day, the origins and also fun facts on page 11!

Frankie Brown is this month’s special guest writer and she talks about learning from First Nations perspectives. She touches on Country, a term used by First Nations peoples to describe the lands, waters, and skies that are deeply connected to their ancestral heritage and family origins. There’s a lot of unpack when it comes to learning about First Nations culture, but it’s an integral part of Australian history so we highly recommend doing some research on it in your spare time.

Many of our students speak multiple languages, but there are also many who only speak the one. Taking the time to learning and master a language can be a lifelong journey, however it is one filled with intrinsic rewards and can open up a range of new opportunities. See why learning a new language is a game-changer on page 13.

THRIVE Intern Jolin is also embracing the spirit of harmony by sharing that harmony starts with us. If there’s one thing we can control, it’s our emotions and they way we conduct ourselves in any situation. When we strike the balance of being respectful of ourselves and others, that’s the beginning of a community where everyone can feel safe and belong.

Don’t miss the newest addition to the magazine, a fun crossword which is of course harmony themed! See how many you can get and try not to peek at the answers until the very end.
