UNSW College is committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all children and young people by upholding a child safe culture and environment. We have zero tolerance for abuse or harm towards children.

In Australia, the Child Safe Standards and the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations are frameworks that guide organisations, including universities, to ensure the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.

Our staff at the College are committed to providing a child safe environment and experience by ensuring the following:

  • General safety: We work to ensure the safety and wellbeing of children and young people, with leaders and staff actively promoting and modelling child-safe principles.
  • Awareness and education: We receive regular training for staff and students to identify, respond to, and prevent potential harm or abuse.
  • Clear policies and proceduresWe will have a clear Child Protection Policy with mandatory incident reporting channels, Student Code of Conduct, Code of Conduct (Employees), and strict Working With Children Check processes for staff who engage with children or young people.
  • Safe environments: We ensure physical and online spaces are safe for children and young people. This includes considerations like secure spaces for activities, monitoring interactions, and protecting children from exploitation or harm in both digital and face-to-face contexts.
  • Empowerment and voice: We encourage children and young people to be heard and respected within the university community through regular survey feedback, connection with our Student Wellbeing Team and through the Student Representative Council.
