Mardi Gras.
It’s happening, it seems to be everywhere, but what exactly is it and why is it important?
Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras is the largest pride event to occur in Australia. Everybody is welcome as it is a time for us all to come together in solidarity and recognition for our queer community while celebrating who they are.
We will be hosting a Glitter Bar as part of Thursday’s PlaySafe activation, so come on down to get your glitter and glam on while learning all about safe sex and relationships! If you want more glitter and glam, why not check out what else is happening for Mardi Gras!
Over at main campus some highlight events include:
Pride on the Quad
Wednesday 21 February, 12 – 2pm, Helen Maguire Lawn
Come to the Helen Maguire Lawn (Quad) to come together as a community and show your pride on campus – visit our queer research museum, make your own pronoun badge, paint your messages of pride and allyship, grab a special edition Pride Lion t-shirt at our charity sale, free food and more!
Mardi Pardi
Thursday 29 February, 6pm, The Roundhouse
Get pumped, get proud and get ready to party at the Roundhouse Mardi Pardi! For the fifth year in a row, we are hosting queer talent and glittering-up to celebrate Mardi Gras at UNSW. It’s time for you to show your pride and let loose to celebrate yes to love!
Pride Cup
Friday 1 March, 11am, Village Green
We’re bringing together a rainbow of athletes to compete in a friendly yet fierce competition, celebrating diversity and inclusion on and off the field. There will be prizes for the winning teams, as well as for the best dressed team, so make sure to bring your A-game and your rainbow gear.
