SRC members standing

The Student Representative Council (SRC) is a leadership opportunity for passionate, driven and proactive students who want to make a meaningful difference to the UNSW College student experience.

Established in 2012, the SRC plays an important role in representing the student body, strengthening student voice and helping shape the future of College life. Made up of the Head, Deputy Head and Student Councillors, SRC members work closely with the Student Life Team to identify opportunities for improvement, share student perspectives and advocate for positive change to the UNSW College Academic Board.

As an SRC member, you'll become a student leader who helps turn ideas into action. Through a "by students, for students" approach, the SRC helps ensure the student experience continues to evolve, remain relevant and reflect the needs of the College community.

What does the SRC do? 

SRC members have the opportunity to contribute to meaningful initiatives that directly impact current and future students, which include: 

  • Gathering feedback, identifying student needs and advocating for improvements and presenting reports and updates to the College Academic Board.
  • Conducting research and collect student feedback on topics that matter, then work with the Student Life Team to explore solutions. Previous SRC initiatives have included understanding student experiences with employability after graduation, identifying preferred event times, and providing feedback on campus facilities and student amenities.
  • Acting as a bridge between students and the College by encouraging open communication, gathering feedback through initiatives such as the SRC Student Survey.
  • Assisting with College activities, events and campaigns.
  • Contributing to the student magazine College Gazette and other communication channels to celebrate student achievements and highlight the experiences that make the College community unique.

Your contribution and leadership will also be recognised through the relevant Leadership Recognition Badges. 

Volunteers can begin their journey into SRC as Student Councillors before progressing into senior leadership positions, including Head or Deputy Head, through an election process. 

If you're passionate about advocacy and influence, the SRC could be the next step in your leadership journey. 

Eligibility criteria

SRC recruitment takes place several times throughout the year and is open exclusively to eligible volunteers who have met the required volunteer hours. 

As one of the most sought-after leadership opportunities at UNSW College, the selection process is competitive. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to interview.

Please note that students cannot hold both an Events Intern and Student Representative Council (SRC) position at the same time. However, once your term in one role has concluded, you're welcome to apply for the other.
